Exclusive Interview – Skate Park Ponte de Sor

Excusive of Site Nacional de Skate

Site Nacional de Skate: What is your name/what do your friends call you?
– Miguel: My name is Miguel Espírito Santo, my friends call me “spirit”.

Site Nacional de Skate: How long have you been skateboarding?
– Miguel:I’ve been skateboarding for 12 years.

Site Nacional de Skate: What area from Portugal are you from?
– Miguel: I’m from Ponte de Sor.

Site Nacional de Skate: How is the Skater Community in your area?
– Miguel: The skateboarding scene in Ponte de Sor is a little weak, with few skaters, but it has been increasing since the beginning of the pandemic.

Site Nacional de Skate: Are there currently any situations that require attention?
– Miguel: The ramps of Skate Park de Ponte de Sor, they are somewhat limited to progression and learning, some with cracks and crevices in the floor.

Site Nacional de Skate: Who do they contact, and what type of response do they have when there are situations that require intervention?
Miguel: I contacted the City Council about installing a rail, a few years ago, it was completed, since then we haven’t contacted anyone else, but there are situations in the skatepark that require attention.

Site Nacional de Skate: What would you like to see happen in the future?
Miguel: I would like it to be possible to increase and improve the skate park with obstacles for different learning levels, with adequate and well-built ramps to improve the practice of skateboarding, thus attracting more skateboarders to grow the local community, and to be able to welcome skateboarders from outside.

Site Nacional de Skate: Have you contacted the National Skate Site and/or other skater communities, etc., in the past, to help you in any way in publicizing your problems? (If yes, which ones and how?)
Miguel: No. So far there has been no help from any community or institution.

Site Nacional de Skate: Do you think it is important that the National Skate Site is a reference site where all “anonymous” skaters can make their voices heard? Why?
Miguel: I think it’s very important, and I would like all skaters and action sports lovers to do this and contribute to a better and bigger community, I thank you for the help and availability you have given.

Site Nacional de Skate: Do you want to leave us any suggestions or challenges?
Miguel: I ask the entire community of skaters, etc., who have problems with progression due to lack of infrastructure or equipment, to do it for yourself and what you like, and fight for it.

Site Nacional de Skate: Thank you very much for your time.
Miguel: Thank you for your help and your time!
